MTV: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Today I found out some AMAZING news, that I have been shortlisted for an interview for the Art Editorial Intern position at MTV! In my previous post I expressed that I wished that my application was little more refined but I was possibly being over critical, either way I am really excited to see what comes of this.  This has been a company I have always wanted to work at and I actually can't believe I have been shortlisted out of thousands of applicants.

Initially I received a text message stating "Congratulations, you have been selected for interview by MTV for the Editorial Art Intern (12 Months) starting in June.."

Following that I was then forwarded some emails on the interview and further information.

I will receive a small brief on the 30th of May to complete in a weeks time, to bring the interview as well as my portfolio. The interview is on the 7th of May at 13.45 in the Camden offices in London.

Overview

Overall this is an amazing opportunity and an exciting prospect for my future, I am happy that I have had the chance to reach the interview stage! I will look forward to completing the tasks and preparing for the interview.
I have booked a print slot to get my boards printed on the 5th of May and I will also print my brief at that time also.

BRANDING SERVED: FEATURE

Today I received an email with some amazing news! I have had my first piece of work featured on an online blog and one that is really reputable in the design community! Throughout my final year I have been re-visiting old work, in particular my behance and when I re-visited an old project from 2nd year I designed and updated some more outcomes, it caught then attention of this blog.

Branding Served is an online website where our curatorial team features a small number of projects to appear on the front of our gallery each day. We only pick the best work that effectively promotes the Branding Served community.

I received an email from one of the co-ordinators Oscar and below is the link to my online feature and project uploaded onto their website.

Today, has been a really good day!

Overview

This is an amazing opportunity for my work to be featured and put out into the world, from this feature I have gained a lot more followers and recognition on the project than what I initially had and overall has been a real confidence boost for myself.  Although this was not a third year project it has urged me to start uploading more work and putting myself out there not only for recognition but to make more contacts in the industry and get my name out there.

MTV: INTERNSHIP APPLICATIONS

One of biggest my ambitions this year, was to work for MTV and this weekend, I randomly stubbled across some job opportunities on their online website and knew I had to apply! It must have been fate, because I only had one day to apply for some of the positions with the deadlines being on the 29th of March. The jobs are based in London, Camden and start on June 15th, with interviews in early May. The internships last for 12 months with a salary of 17,800 + per annum.

MTV Marketing Intern

I applied for a marketing position at MTV because the application talked about having skills in photoshop, social media and branding. Which are avid interests of mine and where my talents lie.

The application involved answering a series of questions that would enable you to the next stage with finally uploading a CV and other information forms. Below is the CV I sent, and although we have had some talks on how to create a creative CV, for this particular job I thought it would be most appropriate to keep it quite clean and corporate due to the fact that I didn't know the context in which it may be displayed. If the CV was going to be printed out I didn't want it to be illegible and I also did this due to the small amount of time.

For my CV, I decided to keep it quite corporate for this position, as I didn't know the context in which it would be used. I initially used bold coloured background and fonts, but I had to consider if this was going to printed and would be legible if it was getting passed round the office.

Viacom Design & Creative Intern

Another opportunity within the MTV Website was to be a design and creative intern for viacom, who own mtv, comedy central and nickelodeon. This opportunity would be a amazing as it had an array of links within the music and entertainment industry which is a field I want to work in. Again, I followed the same process for the previous application.

Editorial Art Intern

After applying for two positions that I really wanted, I found another one for an editorial art intern, this application was the perfect mix between editorial design and art direction which are fields I excel in, so I had to apply for this one really quickly before the deadline.

For this application I had to attach a 5 page pdf of some of my work, unfortunately the website crashed and I had to send a link to a we transfer account and my cargo collective.

On reflection for this application I saw that the deadline wasn't for the 29th and was for the 4th of April, so I tried to apply for this position again, in a more professional manner but due to me already submitting once I couldn't, do it again.

Overview

Overall applying for these jobs were done it quick turn around and I wish I had more time to refine certain features like my CV and digital portfolio, however I am really happy that i have done this and I hope I have the opportunity to work this amazing organisation! If I don't make it to the next stage at least I now have knowledge of when and how to apply for future reference.

PETER & PAUL: PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITY

After the End of Year show meeting, Lee sent out an email to the group thanking us on our hard work, so I decided to contact him and let him know that as a group we are going to continue to build up on the project and to thank him also.

Through the emails Lee asked me to send over some work were I created a digital portfolio, through working with Lee on two projects I felt I knew what one of voice to have in my portfolio which was a mix between humorous and professional and below is what I sent off.

Contact

The interview has been arranged after my end of year show so would be a potential summer placement or position which I am looking forward to.

Overview

Luckily Lee liked my work and I am being considered for an interview which is a fantastic result as I have previously mentioned that I would like to work at Peter & Paul. So hopefully this all goes positively

PPP: BARCELONA STUDIOS

For the second week off university I wanted to travel to Barcelona as it's a city thats amazing for design culture, as apart of my placement week.

Before travelling to Barcelona, Myself and Bobby researched into studios that we liked the look of and created work similar to what we wanted to create. We also considered other studios that created other things to get a broader outlook on the design culture in Barcelona.

In talks with John Watters a University Tutor, I asked him about the best ways to contact international studios. Below are the emails we sent.

His advice was to speak in both languages (spanish - english) which would show consideration for their culture. I never would have thought of doing it that was but this was a really good thing to consider and I will continue to consider this method when speaking to international agencies.

Overview

After speaking to John about the visits to Barcelona, he gave us some great advice about contacting the agencies through speaking Spanish and English to show consideration and to also show the studios that we are aware  in the Spanish culture. Due to the time of year the studio were very busy which is understanding and considering the time frame in which we contacted the studios this could have been done much more in advance. However out of all the studios we contact we had one confirmed visit and contact with two others which is something to look forward to.
