PPP: ONLINE PRESENCE

In order for myself to get external work and to have a more professional presence not only in person but online, I decided to research into creating a personalised website and email to speak to clients and industry professionals. Also to reflect on social outlets that I already use and how I can capitalise on these.

Cargo

For my website, I was invited to use cargo collective, and due to me basic skills in coding I felt that this would be the best way for me to display my work online and to have a working website. To use a personalised domain name for cargo it's £40 a year.

So with my cargo account set up I will buy a domain and work on it's visual style and updating projects onto there.

Domain Websites

For a personalised domain name for my web presence I researched into a few websites to see what they offered. I think it's really beneficial to have your own domain name because it's easy for people to find your work and also comes across more professional.

I have never brought a domain before, so with some help from Tristan I was able to look at a few and get some advice on how to obtain one.

Domains

From my research into the websites, I chose to go with go daddy as they had a deal on where I could buy a website domain, email and online protection for £1 a month for the year, which is pretty good. I decided to keep my website and email simple just by using my name.

I decided against having anything with design attached to it because I don't want that to define my practice as I have ambitions in art direction also and don't want my presence to seem limited.

email: hello@jnaefox.com

Now I have my own personalised email and domain name, I feel that my online presence will be more professional and direct.

Behance

I created a Behance in second year, and started to use it over that summer for placements, and since then I haven't really used it. So when considering my online presence I thought that this was a great outlet for exposure and to be inspired by other peoples work.

With this is mind, I started to go back to old projects and update them, adding more content and re-evaluating old work to make them more substantial.

By doing this I have got an increase of followers and appreciations and I will continue to use this outlet as way of online communication!

Twitter

Twitter is a good outlet for communicating and promoting yourself, and I have made contacts through networking on here, which has been beneficial. I will use Twitter over Facebook as I think the resources are more professional on here.

Instagram

I have an Instagram that I post my work onto sometimes, and my 'Make Shit Mondays' work onto. I use Instagram regularly and will continue to use this in my online presence.

Linkedin

I set up a Linkedin account in first year, which was referred to by John and this has been a really good outlet for networking and posting work or jobs.

Over the two years I've managed to connect with over 100+ people in England and internationally which has been exciting.

Vimeo

Another thing I wanted to consider was using online outlets for my video deliverables that I use in my work. I have used Vimeo to outsource my videos for projects and looking back on this I could promote this site more and brand it to fit in with my online presence.

This is something I can work on to develop further, once my logo and other materials are created. Another outlet I could consider on uploading my work onto is youtube, which is what I will work on whistle updating and extending my online presence.

Overview

I think that I have utilised a lot of existing social media and have been uploading content over the past 3 years without any official branding, now I just have to capitalise on these through branding it and extending it further.
