PERSONALITY PRACTICE

In our session we presented our free ad designs to our partners.

We were then given A5 sheets of paper to write down how we described our individual practice. I found this quite hard to remember.

We then got asked to list 5 things we tried to present or though about when creating our free ads.

The next list was based on 5 things that each of my partners presented in my adds that represented my practice or I liked and 5 things that didn't.

We then as a group went to another groups table and tried to interpret what each designer tried to portray for their client in the free ad.

Lastly we all looked at the adds that had been done for us individually and by our partners. We then made lists of the things that were the same and different for our own.

This task was really interesting, as we could see how other people interpreted us through who we inspired by and how they presented it.
How important is it to involve personality into a practice?

PRO'S
  • Getting your personality across
  • Developing your brand & identity
  • Freelance designers wouldn't matter
  • Ease of design
  • So your works recognisably yours
  • People pay for you/strong identity
CON'S
  • Personality might conflict your design style
  • Versatility
  • Graphic design about other people
  • Not very flexible
  • It's not professional

5 statements about myself as an individual.

I've been a professional model for five years, allowing to have this opportunity has helped me gain confidence as an individual.

I like to define the moments in my life by going travelling, I can't stay in one place for too long without getting bored. Last year I travelled to London, Spain, Cyprus and Portugal. This year I plan to go Ibiza for a few months as this is something I really enjoy.

The XX Concert

Music really influences me as individual, I have an eclectic taste which keeps me motivated for whatever mood I'm in. Most of my money is spent on going to festivals and concerts.

I like to collect fashion magazines and books. In my spare time I enjoying making scrap books or decorating my work space with things that inspire me.

My dad's from Jamaica and my mums Native American and white, being mixed race has made me take pride in my culture. I go to the Nottinghill Gate carnival in London every year to celebrate this.

5 statements about me as a designer.

Soure: Lomo

As a designer my hopes and aspirations lie within working for a fashion editorial magazine. However since joining this course the opportunities within graphic design are endless. One of my major aspirations would to become an Art Director of I.D or Pop magazine.

As a designer I am influenced by looking at different designers blogs and studio's to see what's contemporary in design. Also documenting my own helps me see my progression from where I started to the current date.

Vignelli Forever Posters by Anthon Neil Dart

I have learnt the terms of modernist and post modernist design, this has broaden my outlook on my practice and helped me find where I stand in design. I would say I am a post-modernist although I do also like this style of design.

Photography and textures really inspires my work, I think they give a design extra edge which makes it look aesthetically pleasing.

Typography

I have learnt to value minimalistic design, sometimes just one letter or one colour can just be enough to make an impact. Even using just black and white can really make publications look professional, clean and crisp.
